More importantly, I gave more prominence to his nipples. You'll notice that mine features a complete view of Emba's right elbow, whereas it's cut off on the manga cover.

There are a couple of deliberate differences in my version. This by extension resulted in flaws in the negative space. Furthermore, Emba's bodily posture is more upright and stiff in my drawing, while it was more tilted at the hip in the original. Hands have always been a pain for me to draw. More egregious, though, is the sloppiness in his hands, which was not for lack of effort. This discrepancy is due in part to the size at which I drew the picture I could not achieve the total level of detail in the eyes with a mere pencil on 8.5x11 paper. My Emba looks rather gentle in comparison. Also significantly lacking in my version is his facial expression, which is not nearly as sultry and alluring due to his eyes. The overall anatomy of the character is mostly accurate, but I notice some minor flaws in his symmetry and proportions which were not present in Takashima's original.

The shading is thorough and deep, the highlights effectively create depth and tone to Emba's muscles and attire, and in particular, the drapery of his loin cloth looks awesome. My reproduction of the cover art turned out pretty damn well considering how rusty my drawing hand is. Her anatomy is impeccable and sexy as hell, and "Wild Rock" is made all the more enticing by the skimpy loin cloths that the prehistoric bishies are wearing. Takashima's artwork is some of the most impressive I've seen in the BL genre. Once again, I'm trying to get back into drawing, and I gave myself a substantial challenge with this one.
